Resolutions

As the month of January begins to draw to a close, we’re reminded of the resolutions we made some three weeks ago.

As the New Year rang in, a record number of us promised that we would make a ‘green’ New Year’s resolution this year. This was reportedly due to the fact that, by way of the global Corona-induced lockdowns, 2020 proved that when human behaviour changes there is an immediate and direct effect on the environment. As greenhouse gas emissions were slashed worldwide and when air pollution fell by almost 50% in some of the world’s busiest cities, we took note and realised that perhaps in each doing a little, collectively we can achieve a lot.

Consumers can trace the environmental and ethical credentials of their clothing via clear labelling. For example, the MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX® verifies that a garment has been tested for harmful substances and guarantees that the product has been manufactured using sustainable processes under socially responsible working conditions.

Each item labelled with MADE IN GREEN can be traced using a unique product ID or QR code. The label provides access to information regarding the production facilities in which the textile or leather article was produced, the stages of production of which the textile has undergone and the countries in which the manufacture took place.

If you haven’t yet made a New Years resolution, why not pledge to think green and shop sustainably for textiles this year? We must start as we mean to go on, accept personal responsibility and make positive changes that inspire both ourselves and others to live more sustainably.
