SUSTAINABILITY IN TEXTILES: UNESCO World Clean Up Day

As UNESCO’s ‘World Clean Up Day’ approaches, on September 18th, we’re reminded to take a closer look at the state of our planet. ‘The world is drowning in its own waste, yet so many people have become so used to it that they don’t even see it anymore!’ Anyone can join the World Clean Up Day scheme and make a difference in their community. World Clean Up Day harnesses the power of people around the world to cooperate and collaborate to clean our environment. This effort involves all levels of society – from citizens to business, to government to reduce the harmful effects of pollution in communities all over the world.

If we could see the consequences of our actions immediately, perhaps we would think twice about how, or even whether, to dispose of our waste. Pollution is a global problem requiring a global solution, even in the most isolated places.

Sustainability is a core value for us. OEKO-TEX® are committed to helping companies and consumers make responsible decisions in favour of textiles that are safer for people and the planet.

Consumers everywhere have an increased awareness of how products can affect their health as well as the environment. We can all engage in cleaning up the planet by taking part in wider community initiatives and making greener individual choices going forwards.

An easy first step toward living a sustainable life is to support brands that hold independent labels from trusted institutions such as OEKO-TEX®. Our STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® and MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX® labels can be your quick and verifiable guide when shopping for safe, earth-friendly products.

Creating a cleaner, safer planet for our children starts with us and starts from home. We know there’s no ‘planet B’, let’s make impactful choices to protect the next generation.
